Oakland’s Legacy Businesses

  • Chapel of the Chimes 4449 Piedmont Avenue Oakland, CA, 94611 United States (map)

Cities across the country are beginning to adopt legacy business programs to support long-established small businesses and boost neighborhood shopping. Why should Oakland adopt a legacy business program? What would the benefits be, and what businesses should be included? The talk will include an overview of legacy business programs, as well as virtual visits to some candidates for legacy status in Oakland. Come and nominate your favorite legacy businesses to become part of a legacy business program for Oakland.

Legacy business programs began in San Francisco to allow cities to support the longtime small businesses serving a neighborhood. The programs generally provide community, publicity, organizational support, and grant opportunities.
