Historic Places in a Hidden Area

Walking Tour: We will start at the Cohen Bray House, a huge single building built from 1883 to 1884 that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. We will see a range of buildings from the 1890s to the 1930s. Five are designated historic buildings, but many others are not, such as those from the 1890s that line East 16th Ave. We will return to the Cohen Bray House after touring this neighborhood. Walking tour will last approximately 10am-12pm

Inside the Cohen-Bray House: 12pm-1:30pm For those who wish to tour the interior of the historic Cohen-Bray House, a donation of $25 is requested by the Victorian Preservation Center of Oakland to benefit the house. This is a coordinated, but separate tour with group limit of 12. Visit cohenbrayhouse.org to buy tickets.

Fees: $15 Members / $20 Non-Members. Tickets to interior tour sold separately via Cohen-Bray House.


Accessibility Note: Walking tour will take place on city sidewalks and are expected to be paved and accessible for those using mobility devices. Mostly flat route.

The Cohen-Bray House is a 19th century home and is not wheelchair accessible. Tour requires use of stairs.

  • PLEASE MEET 15 MINUTES BEFORE listed time to allow for registration.

  • We kindly request you register in advance. In-person registration will be first-come-first-served on a space available basis. We cannot guarantee a spot will be available.

  • We offer fee waivers for limited income residents— just ask!

  • Comfortable walking shoes, sun hats and sunscreen are recommended. Bring water.
